21 .JUSTICE AND TOLERANCE IN THE QUR’
While you read these lines, injustice wins out in many societies all over the world. For the solution, a morality which will enable people to set aside their personal benefits for the sake of justice is needed. This morality is the Qur’anic morality, that Allah teaches and commands us. Qur’anic morality commands a pure justice with no discrimination between people, and in favor of the rightful and truthful.

Month of Fasting or Month of Feasting?
Islam and Sciences
The holy month of Ramadan is a time of restraint, reflection, and renewal. Muslims make every effort to better themselves and to be drawn closer to their Creator. They guard their tongues, engage in long hours of worship, exercise patience, and open up their hearts and pockets to charitable causes. However, when it comes to consuming food during the evening hours, some believers fall short of following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him (pbuh).

In order to compare the eating habits of Muslims today, during the month of Ramadan, with that of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) an informal survey was conducted. Over 270 participants from around the world were asked about their consumption habits during this sacred month. Sixty percent of participants were from the US, 20% from the Middle East, 10% from South Asia (Indian Subcontinent) and 10% were from other countries.

Breaking the Fast

Regarding the iftar meal, it is encouraged to break your fast as soon as it is permissible to do so. The Prophet (pbuh) would hasten to break his fast. Sahl ibn Sa`d reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said: "The people will not cease to be upon good as long as they hasten in breaking the fast." (Bukhari and Muslim).

It is reported that the Prophet (pbuh) would also break his fasts with dates as do 86.5% of the survey participants; this is a Sunnah that is well followed by Muslims today. Anas Ibn Maalik said: "The Prophet (pbuh) used to break his fast with fresh dates before he prayed. If he did not find fresh dates then with dried dates. If there were no dried dates then with a few sits of water." (Abu Dawood)

Getting the Most Out of Ramadan
Month of Ramaddan

The month of Ramadan provides us with a blessed chance to reap blessings and rewards. That is not all. It is also an excellent opportunity for us to strengthen and purify our character. The general spirit of Ramadan encourages us to live more wholesomely and better ourselves.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us: "When the month of Ramadan arrives, the gates of Heaven are opened, the gates of hell are locked, and the devils are chained." [Sahîh Muslim (1079) and Sunan al-Tirmidhî (682)]

The reduced temptation to do wrong afforded to us by fasting and by the general atmosphere of Ramadan gives us a chance to show Allah our best potential. We should do what we can to maximize this potential.

Renew Your Relationship With the Qur'ân

To get ourselves in the proper frame of mind – and earn Allah's blessings as well – we should devote more of our time to the Qur'ân.

The Importance of Sincerity and Piety
Muslims and Islam
Sincerity. When we speak about sincerity in religion, what do we mean?

Sincerity in religion is to intend to please God with our deeds and our devotion, without any ulterior or worldly motives. We need to be vigilant with our hearts and make sure we do not covet the people's praise. We should only be concerned with Allah's pleasure and His reward.

Allah says: "And they have been commanded no more than this: To worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, being true (in faith); to establish regular prayer; and to practice regular charity. That is the proper way of faith." [Sűrah al-Bayyinah: 5]

He also says regarding what we say: "There is no good in most of their secret talks, except (in the speech of those) who enjoins charity or goodness or reconciliation between people; and whoever does this seeking Allah's pleasure, We will give him a mighty reward." [Sűrah al-Nisâ': 114]

The Beautiful House and its Pillars
Learn
That day I was admiring a beautiful house near my sister’s place. The design of the house was breathtaking, subhanAllah, reflecting on the creativity and sheer hard work the architect must have put into the design.

But then I got curious. Despite its beauty, the house was empty. I mean, it looked as if it has been left empty for years. The garden is full of weeds growing as tall as a 9 year old, cobwebs are everywhere, the main gate is all rusty and some windows are broken too.

It was then my dad told me that the house was empty for a reason.

‘What’s the reason, dad?’ I asked him

‘Well, it seemed that when the house was being build, the owner refused to follow the advice that it should not be three-storey high building as the ground it was built on was kinda soft. And if he still wants to do so, he must build stronger foundation for the house and use the right kind of piling as pillars. But he refused to follow and build the house his way anyway. And now, the house is not safe to live in”

“Wow, what a shame and a waste of money!” I couldn’t believe my ears, shaking my head in disbelief. The owner must have lost hundred of thousands of his hard earned money. Poor him…

As I reflected on that incident later in the day, it suddenly dawned upon me the words of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who once said,

"Islam is built on five (pillars): the testimony that there is no god except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; establishing prayer; paying zakaah; fasting Ramadaan; and Hajj to the House (the Ka'bah)."

Terrorizing people in the name of dawah
Dawah

A missionary campaign entitled “The Protective Shield” recently organized by the missionary summer camp in Taif (Saudi Arabia) has sparked controversy among women participants and visitors, Al-Watan newspaper reported last Saturday August 23.

Corpses were displayed inside a dark tent and visitors were allowed to enter only after sunset — so that it was pitch-black inside. The religious objective of the episode was “to bring to life dead hearts” as the supervisor of the campaign, Balgees Al-Ghamri, explained.

This type of dawa (missionary work of Islam) will certainly terrorize and antagonize people through a focus on death, punishments and hellfire in the afterlife. It has become so common these days that many Muslim converts living in Islamic lands say they are happy they did not learn about Islam here.

“Sheikhs (preachers) and society in general make people feel that you should be stiff. I’m very happy I learned about Islam abroad. I know other expatriates who feel the same way. They tell me if they had learned about Islam after coming here, they would have never converted,” said Aisha Mohammad, a 34-year-old American teacher.
